KEY POINTS:
A man attempted to light what appeared to be a molotov cocktail as he demanded money from staff at a pizza store in Christchurch last might, police say.
Detective Jeremy Gunn said the man entered Hell Pizza on Ferry Rd between 9.45pm and 10pm and demanded money from two female staff.
"The offender lit the wick of the device several times as he demanded money from these two staff members," Mr Gunn said.
He then drove off in a silver Subaru station wagon with a small amount of money.
The man was described as a Caucasian aged in his 30s, about 175cm tall and of skinny build.
He was wearing black jeans, a black hoodie and had decaying or missing teeth.
Police urged anyone who may have seen the man or vehicle to contact them.
