Less than 48 hours after Napier stood still to farewell Senior Constable Lenny Snee, a funeral service will be held today for his killer.
At 11am, friends and family of Jan Molenaar will gather at Crestwood funeral home in Hastings.
The body will be brought from Ruhapia Marae, where it has lain since being returned to the family after a post-mortem examination.
The 51-year-old former Territorial soldier died a week ago today of one self-inflicted bullet wound to the head, after paralysing Napier's Hospital Hill for three days as he fired dozens of shots from his house in Chaucer Rd South.
He killed Mr Snee and critically wounded three other men while holed up with at least 18 weapons.
Molenaar's brother, Peter, said yesterday that a tangi had been under way at the marae since the body arrived, and friends and family had drifted in and out to pay their respects and remember the good times.
In family notices in Wednesday's Hawke's Bay Today, Molenaar's partner, Delwyn Keefe, wrote that she was the luckiest woman in the world to have had him in her life.
"A great man with a big heart and a smile that would light up the world," she said.
Meanwhile, the Independent Police Conduct Authority has decided not investigate police actions during last week's armed siege in Napier.
The announcement followed confirmation on Wednesday from a coroner that Molenaar had no injuries caused by the police and that his death was self-inflicted.
The three men injured in Molenaar's rampage were yesterday all improving in hospital.
A police spokeswoman said the investigation into the shootings was not expected to be completed before next week.
Police have released pictures of the weapons, body armour and ammunition found in his bedroom.
