A shallow quake has rocked the lower North Island.

The 4.3 magnitude quake hit at 9.46am.

It was located 10 kilometres east of Palmerston North at a depth of 5 kilometres.

Geonet has rated its intensity as moderate.

It could be felt in Wellington.
