Christchurch has been shaken by a moderate earthquake this evening, just days after the city was rocked by a strong 5.7 magnitude tremor.
The latest quake struck at 7.17pm 10km north-east of Christchurch at a depth of 15km. GeoNet has downgraded its magnitude from 4.4 to 4.3.
It received 1051 reports from people who felt the tremor.
"The majority of reports were from people in Christchurch," seismologist John Ristau said.
"There was also a few felt reports from as far south as Dunedin.
