The Wellington Interclub competition has finished for 2005, and it had been one of mixed fortunes for the Featherston Division 7 and Division 10 teams. The 10th Division has the better story to tell from the Saturday 11 June 10th round. Playing the formidable Manor Park team at home, Featherston considered that their loss 6.5/8.5 was a very good result. This team lost comprehensively to Manor Park on their course, so although the tables were not turned, Featherston played a well fought match to hold Manor Park to 8.5 points.
Unfortunately this means that Featherston yet again holds the wooden spoon in this division
We understand that Miramar may the new team to join the division with Paraparaumu moving up to Division 9.
The 7th Division will want to forget their match at Karori. With a loss 1/14, Featherston were well outplayed.
This atones for the win by Featherston 10.5/4.5 when playing Karori at home. We understand that the result means that Karori move up to the 6th Division next year. For all interclub players from Featherston, a reminder that the annual Interclub Challenge between the two interclub teams at Featherston will be played on Saturday June 25. Start time of 10 am to be confirmed.
Women. While on matters interclub the women played the fourth round of the Riverside Cup at Riversdale on Friday 10 June. Featherston have been having a good run in this competition and beat Martinborough 3.5/2.5.
Wins to Julie Dondertman, Sally Fairbrother and Shirley Poutu. Rhonda Williams halved her match. The 5th Round of the Riverside Cup will be at Masterton on 29 July.
On the previous Tuesday 7 June the CHP (Country Home Pennants for clubs with fewer than 45 members) stableford was played. . Winners were Marion Wylie, Verner Parker and Deb Henderson.
The women did not compete any rounds in the par competition on Sunday 12 June, after the weather turned nasty.
Sunday competition. In cold, and then wet conditions a limited number of players completed the par competition on Sunday 12 June. . A number of players were also finishing their second round championship matches, while others were playing early rounds of the four ball best ball handicap Harry Puha Memorial Trophy.
The pressure of their Harry Puha match certainly paid off for Bob Macfarlane and Barry Johnson, who won their match 1 up, and took home the first and second prizes in the par competition.
Bob finished with + 5, and Barry with + 3. Peter Gray also had + 3, and Tai Walters, Alex Walters, Alan Bennett and Jack Barton all had + 2.
Bubba Wherahiko won the All Teed Up sponsored hole on the 9th, with a superb 5 wood onto the green, which must have missed the cup by inches.
Unfortunately there were no twos recorded on Sunday.
