Mark Mitchell, a former policeman, has been named the new National Party candidate for the Rodney Electorate.
A former police officer and international security consultant, Mr Mitchell was selected at a meeting tonight which was rescheduled from an earlier date due to concerns about alleged ''stacking'' of the selection committee by some candidates.
Current Rodney MP and Parliament's Speaker of the House Lockwood Smith has opted for a high spot on National's party list for the November election.
The seat is considered a safe seat for National in this year's election.
The five hopefuls named earlier were John Kirikiri, Mitchell, Christopher Penk, Brent Robinson, and Karen Rolleston.
