Wellington police are warning motorists to take extra care after five weather-related crashes today.
Two people were injured when a truck and bus collided on Kuku Beach Road, just south of Levin, about 2pm, central police communications team leader Kirsty Henson said. No one on the bus was injured.
Police also attended a six-car crash on State Highway 1 between Tawa and Porirua and a two-car crash on SH58 at the intersection of Haywards Hill Rd and Harris Rd, as well as crashes in the Terrace Tunnel and Ngauranga Gorge.
Each crash was still being cleared and investigated, Ms Henson said.
A car hit a pedestrian in Vivian St in the central city but no one was injured.
While there had been an unusually high number of crashes, most people walked away unscathed, Ms Henson said.
Central police communications Sergeant Andy Dow said the wet, misty weather was keeping police busy.
"We are asking all drivers to take extra care on the roads, they should consider dipped headlights and watch following distances," he said.
