Queenstown bouncer Jonathan Dixon may have to wait until next year for his jury trial to continue, after a mistrial was declared at the Invercargill District Court today.
The mistrial, when a trial is called off during proceedings, was declared by Judge Kevin Philips after evidence was heard from complainantJordan Sinke. A resumption date will be set next month.
Details of why the mistrial was called were suppressed by Judge Philips, and Dixon was remanded on bail to September 20 for a pre-trial callover.
In late January, Dixon was charged with assault and causing grievous bodily harm after an altercation outside Queenstown nightclub Subculture that left Mr Sinke in an induced coma.
The 41-year-old Queenstown bouncer was also charged with assaulting Thomas Beatson on the same night.
Dixon was already on bail at the time after appearing in court on charges of accessing a computer system and dishonestly obtaining video surveillance footage of England rugby player Mike Tindall, who is married to Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter Zara Phillips, and a woman in a bar in September during the Rugby World Cup.
The trial for these charges are likely to be heard in December also in Invercargill.
