The Auckland town hall is open to more than 1,200 hundred people today for the City Mission Christmas lunch.
A meal of ham, chicken, vegetables and gravy followed by trifle, jelly and ice-cream is being served.
Auckland City Missioner Diane Robertson says everything is under control and running smoothly.
She says the cooks are doing the final preparations, the tables are set and they are ready to open the doors at 11.30.
About 400 people are having Christmas lunch at Wellington's Saint Aidan's Church and about 600 people are gathering at Christchurch East School.
