A search for a missing tramper who police say will now be very cold, intensified today in bush south of Auckland.
Anshan Yan has now spent two nights in the Hunua ranges south east of Auckland after becoming separated from his sister and nephew on Sunday afternoon.
He was wearing a T-shirt, grey jacket, white trainers and black trousers when last seen.
Senior Sergeant Dene Duthie from the police search base said while the conditions had not been as cold as predicted, Mr Yan would be very cold.
He said Mr Yan was not experienced in bush and was wearing cotton clothing which would "suck the heat out of him."
"Two nights out there and luckily the weather has been better than predicted but we do have grave concerns for him," Mr Duthie said.
He said searchers would concentrate on a small but dense area of bush today.
"We are throwing a lot of resources into it and are looking at a very small area and doing an extremely intense search of it where he was last seen."
