A 78 year-old tramper who was missing overnight has been found safe and well.
Senior Sergeant Dean Goodall said the man had become disorientated and lost his way in the bush. He said the man was an experienced tramper and was found unscathed after his night out.
The man had been tramping in Hawke's Bay bush near Tutira and had been with a group on their way to Lake Opouahi when he became separated about 1pm yesterday.
A helicopter crew and search and rescue teams were out until about midnight looking for the man, but were unable to find him.
The search recommenced at 7am today.
