The body of a missing 25-year-old swimmer was discovered in Wellington's Oriental Bay today.
The swimmer was last seen leaving his clothes on the shore and entering the water about 6.45pm yesterday.
The body was discovered by the police national dive squad in waters off the Bay about 10am today, shift commander Ian Harris, of Central Communications police told NZPA.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Coastguard and a police launch searched for the man until about 10pm after he failed to return from a swim.
The search resumed at first light today.
The body had been handed over to the coroner for a post-mortem, Mr Harris said.
The man's identity has not been released.
