The body of 28-year-old Roxburgh man Paul Wilson was recovered today from the Clutha River.
Mr Wilson, a civil engineer, went to the river near the Talla Burn power station to collect water samples about midday on February 2, but never returned.
A commercial jet boat operator who had been part of a large search found Mr Wilson's body north of Beaumont, about 11am, Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw said.
"We believe Mr Wilson has always been within the search area but had only recently become visible," Mr Shaw said.
Police thanked the jet boat operator for his efforts as well as Central Otago Land Search and Rescue, volunteer searchers and local farmers.
The matter had now been referred to the coroner and Mr Wilson's family had asked for privacy, Mr Shaw said.
