Police have found a body of a man they believe to have been missing since February.
Trevor Searancke, 53, from Masterton vanished while taking a walk.
Senior sergeant Warwick Burr The body was found in dense blackberry and scrub on a river terrace about 5km east of Carterton.
He said an autopsy will have to be carried out to formally identify the body.
"We have spoken to his family late today. They understand the need for formal identification and are both sad and relieved if the body is their loved one," Mr Burr said last night.
He said Wellington and Wairarapa search and rescue units have carried out searches since February to locate the body.
