The body of a missing man has been found in his 6m aluminium boat washed up on the West Coast of the Coromandel Peninsula North of Thames.
Coastguard vessels and the police helicopter searched the Firth of Thames until after midnight after the man made a cellphone call to a relative at about 6pm yesterday, complaining of chest pains while out in his boat.
Police said the man was unable to give an accurate position before cellphone contact was lost.
The boat and occupant were found about 2am today by a Thames police patrol conducting a shoreline search.
