An Invercargill man who went missing has turned up after "living rough" for eight days.
Brendan Mulder, 49 disappeared in the Otapiri Gorge near Winton while on an outing with a family member.
Police were particularly concerned as Mr Mulder was reported to have health issues and did not have his medication with him.
A search and rescue mission was mounted but was suspended on Monday afternoon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Cowie told the Southland Times Mr Mulder was picked up by a farmer in the Otapiri area around midday yesterday and taken to Winton Police station.
"It is believed that he spent nearly the entire seven days living rough in that area.
"Our understanding is he hasn't eaten in almost seven days. He's not really in good condition."
Mr Mulder was recuperating in Southland Hospital today.
