An overdue tramper in the South Island's Lewis Pass has been located safe and well in the area, police have announced.
Fergus Stephen went on a 10-day tramp in the Lewis Pass on September 27 and when he didn't return on schedule his worried family reported him missing.
Police appealed to the public this morning to help find the 24-year-old, who was dropped off at the Lewis Pass car park entrance to the St James walkway, about 60km west of Hanmer Springs.
"It was his intention to cover the walkway for the following 10 days. As Mr Stephen failed to turn up after more than 10 days, his family alerted the police [on Thursday]."
