KEY POINTS:
Two nine year-old Wellington girls missing since yesterday were found safe and well this morning.
Police said that Jean Temoananui and Missy Harding were found at Karori Park about 10.30am not far from where they were last seen at Karori West School Fair at 8am yesterday.
Detective Steve Harwood said police were still trying to establish the circumstances surrounding their disappearance but it was possible that they had become locked in a room at the sports ground and only managed to release themselves this morning.
He said they tried to run off when approached by police.
He said the girls were in the process of being returned to their worried parents.
The cooperation and many calls from the public were appreciated.
Fears were held for the girls' safety given the time they have been away from home and the weather conditions in the capital.
