A Coromandel woman is to be declared officially dead - but not until the end of this month.
Alexa Joy Cullen, who had a speech impediment and hearing disability, went missing from her Manaia home in June 1995 and has not been seen since.
Now, eight years after the 26-year-old disappeared, police and family have resigned themselves to the fact she is not coming home and she is to be declared officially dead.
At a recent inquest, Thames Coroner John Jenkison said there was enough evidence to declare Alexa dead. However, his decision will not be formalised until May 30 in case information about what happened to Alexa is generated by media publicity.
Anyone with information about Alexa should contact the Thames police on (07) 867-9600.
