The mother of missing Auckland woman Carmen Thomas has met with her grandson for the first time in years, in unfortunate circumstances.
Teresa Scott flew into Auckland from South Africa late on Friday night and spent two days speaking with police about her daughter, who has not been seen for more than one month.
Detective Inspector Mark Benefield said Mrs Scott had not seen her daughter's son, now five years old, since he was a baby.
A Facebook page set up by members of Ms Thomas' family says her son is doing fine and is with his father, who shares custody of him. Carmen idolises her son and would never just leave him, it says.
The Facebook page now has close to 1000 members.
Police were still working hard on the investigation but had no new information at this point, Mr Benefield said.
Anyone who has seen Ms Thomas or her black Nissan Pulsar car (registration number ATS 209) any time after June 27 should contact police.
