Police say they still do not know whether bodies have been found in the car linked to missing Invercargill boy Michael Zhao-Beckenridge.
Scientists from ESR have been examining the wreckage of the car, removed from the sea near Curio Bay yesterday afternoon.
Police spokesman Nic Barclay said further examinations would be conducted today.
"We will be keeping the family up to date as much as we can as we progress," he said.
Michael and his stepfather John Beckenridge have been missing since March 13, when the boy was taken during a lunch break from James Hargest College's junior school in Invercargill.
