Police are asking Wanaka residents to look out for the clear plastic bag of coins which fell out of the back of a white, unmarked van yesterday.
Three small bags of money dropped out of the vehicle after a lock on one of the doors broke as it travelled along Crown Range Rd in Cardrona about 3pm.
The company that owns the van found one of the bags and a passing motorist picked up another and took it to the Wanaka police station, but the third is still missing.
It was unclear how much the lost coins were worth.
Police asked anyone with information about the coins to call Otago Lakes-Central Area police on 03 441 1600 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
