KEY POINTS:
A 10-month-old baby at the centre of a custody dispute after his parents were killed in an apparent murder-suicide has been returned to Whangarei Police.
Police launched a search for baby Konway Dobson after a temporary custody order was issued on Saturday to his maternal grandfather.
Emily O'Sullivan, 38, had taken Konway after his parents' deaths and is challenging the custody order in the Family Court.
But police yesterday issued a statement saying she would need to surrender Konway before being able to fight for the right to take guardianship of him.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said Miss O'Sullivan took the boy to police last night after several hours of negotiation.
Konway was in good health and had obviously been well looked after, Ms Kennett said.
Police believe Konway's mother Reipae Dobson, 19, was murdered at her Whangarei home on December 10 by his father, Eldorado Waerehu, 20, who then killed himself.
