Mr Bohm said police were also expediting travel plans for Ms Fan's family to travel to Wellington from China. The family was due to leave China today if all the documentation was ready.
"We're hoping they will be here early next week at the latest,'' Mr Bohm said.
Police yesterday appealed to Miramar residents to search their properties for out-of-ordinary items such as clothing, footwear or jewellery and to call police if anything was found.
Investigators have identified a number of people of interest in relation to the killing.
They have also released an image of the 32cm knife with a wooden handle used to kill Ms Fan.
