Public computer terminals at the Ministry of Justice and Maori Land Court branches have been shut down after a major security breach at Work and Income.
The ministry confirmed last night it had shut three terminals at its head office and others at land court branches as a "precautionary measure to ensure there are no security problems".
Those were its only public access information terminals, a spokesman said.
He said the move did not follow any known security breaches, but was simply in anticipation of an urgent review of publicly accessible systems across the state sector, called for by the Government in response to the Work and Income scare.
"We are confident there have been no issues around private information being made public through our systems," he said.
