New Zealanders should not travel to Pakistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade warned yesterday.
It advised New Zealanders in Pakistan to leave using "available commercial means".
The ministry's travel advisory is in response to the expected US retaliation against Pakistan's neighbour Afghanistan.
It said: "Should any New Zealanders choose to remain in Pakistan they are advised to maintain a high level of personal security awareness and keep themselves well informed of developments that could affect their safety. They should avoid demonstrations and other public gatherings."
Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said yesterday that those thinking of travelling to Afghanistan or Pakistan should "immediately postpone their travel".
