The Ministry of Justice today apologised for mistakenly including an Auckland man's suppressed address in his partner's divorce papers which were sent to her violent ex-husband.
Courts Minister Rick Barker has ordered a full report following the "regrettable" administrative error.
"The ministry is taking this matter very seriously," he said.
"The ministry and staff apologise for this error to the family and I will make sure that systems are put in place to stop it happening again."
The Auckland man said the ex-husband -- who is the subject of an protection order -- now knew where his ex-wife and their three children live.
The family was at risk and felt they have to move house to ensure their safety, he told Newstalk ZB.
The Justice Ministry took responsibility for the mistake, spokeswoman Suzanne Pollard said today.
"Court staff are aware of the consequences of this administrative error and an investigation is already under way to determine how it occurred," she told NZPA.
"Court staff are working with the family concerned to help them in every way possible and to ensure practical support is provided."
Ms Pollard was unable to confirm whether the ministry had received a request from the man to help the family with moving costs.
