Social Development Minister Paula Bennett was admitted to Waitakere Hospital yesterday with pneumonia and bronchitis.
She was expected to stay overnight and possibly another night, a spokeswoman said.
"She has been unwell all week long but tried to get to as many engagements as possible, but eventually had to stop and go to the doctor, who immediately sent her to hospital."
