The Youth Affairs Minister believes it is vital young people feel confident that opportunities are available for them.
An online survey by the Foundation for Youth Development and TelstraClear shows nearly half of people aged between 15 and 18 believe their future opportunities lie overseas.
Minister Paula Bennett is concerned that young people are worried about finding a job in New Zealand or are contemplating moving offshore to find employment.
She says the government is focused on getting young people into work and the Job Ops and Community Max schemes are paying off. Ms Bennett says 5,000 jobs for young people have been filled through the schemes in the past six months.
