AUCKLAND - Police will spend the next two weeks investigating whether further drugs charges will be laid against Millie Elder, the adopted daughter of broadcaster Paul Holmes.
Elder, 19, appeared in the Auckland District Court this morning, after spending the past two nights in the Auckland Central police station cells for alleged breaches of her bail conditions.
Elder, who is due to be sentenced next month on drugs charges, was arrested on Tuesday for three alleged breaches of her bail conditions.
Last year Elder admitted drugs charges, including possessing methamphetamine, a pipe and allowing premises to be used for drugs.
Elder appeared in court today wearing a grey hoodie, with her hair pulled off her face.
As Elder entered the court her mother, former television presenter Hine Elder fought back tears, as she sat surrounded by friends and family.
After a forced smile at Judge Phillipa Cunningham, Elder spent much of the half hour proceedings with her arms crossed, her head down and with her back to the public gallery.
As the Crown outlined the three breaches Elder became more animated, rolling her eyes, interrupting counsel and at one point mouthing an obscenity at Crown solicitor Kristen Lummis.
The Crown alleges an off-duty police officer saw Elder drinking at a party at Sky City at the weekend and in the company of a woman with whom, under her bail conditions, she is not allowed to associate.
Police are continuing to investigate the third alleged breach, which could lead to further drugs charges being laid against the former model.
After her previous court appearances last year Elder was bailed to stay at her mother's home on Waiheke Island and a curfew imposed.
The midnight until 7am curfew was lifted in January.
The Crown alleges Elder was staying at her former partner's home in Auckland and that when the house was searched drugs and drug paraphernalia were found.
Elder was not at the house at the time of the search and the man told police the items were not his but Elder's.
The man also told police Elder was continuing to use drugs while on bail.
Judge Cunningham said the more Elder was out of circulation the better it was for her.
"What I can not ignore is that it seems to be coming to Auckland and at night that has caused these problems arising."
Elder was bailed to her mother's house with a midnight to 7am curfew and is to reappear in court on February 21, with the curfew being reviewed then, depending on whether further charges were laid.
Police were testing the drug paraphernalia but outside the court defence lawyer Jesse Soondram told media Elder denied the drug-making utensils allegedly found in her former partner's house were hers and believed her fingerprints would not be found on them.
"She was not at the house at the time, it was an associate's house, she was unaware of the presence of the drugs there, she certainly wasn't there."
Elder's rehabilitation was going well, she did not use drugs and she just wanted the proceedings to end, he said.
Last year Elder admitted drugs charges, including possessing methamphetamine, a pipe and allowing premises to be used for drugs following a police raid on her flat in the Auckland suburb of Ponsonby.
It was revealed Elder developed a $1000 a day drug habit, after she began taking drugs three years ago.
In December her sentencing was delayed until March to allow her to continue her drug rehabilitation.
