Milkmen will be back in neighbourhoods from tonight. After fading away in the past two decades, a new service has begun to compete with supermarkets for customers.
The Trusty Delivery Company will deliver milk and other goods to almost 1200 Auckland customers.
And there will be no need for tokens or coins, once the target for thieves looking for easy pocket money. Deliveries can now be ordered online.
Managing director Graeme Brown said he believed the idea of the traditional milkman would be welcomed. The company also has a milk woman.
"We were looking for other ways to get customers and realised that home delivery has been forgotten about," Brown said.
"I think customers are very pleased to see the milkman coming back to their doors."
Meadowbank mum Kate Meredith has signed up with the service.
She said the milkman came knocking at her Puroto St door a couple of days ago to promote the business.
"I was really impressed with it. Everyone in the area has been really keen.
"They give us a little cooler bag which we put out the night before.
"I was keen to have milk delivered the way it used to be."
