The Hopkins family had two reasons to celebrate this week - 5-year-old Seb was having a birthday and his burnt toddler sister Arna was able to breathe on her own in time for the celebrations.
Arna, 3, was injured last month after lighting a candle in memory of her twin sister who had died. She has been in Auckland's Middlemore Hospital for major skin graft surgery.
Her uncle and family spokesman Kane Hopkins said it was "all good news over the past few days. Really that's because of the incredible skill and commitment of the medical team."
Arna was still in intensive care, but able to breathe on her own, Mr Hopkins said. Public generosity had also helped the family gather in Auckland for her brother's birthday yesterday.
