Microsoft's chief financial officer, Chris Liddell, paid homage to his New Zealand education by awarding two university scholarships to former Mt Albert Grammar School students yesterday.
Liddell credits his successful career to the well-rounded education he received at Mt Albert Grammar and the University of Auckland.
Having spoken about the importance of philanthropy and being named a patron of the University of Auckland last year, he yesterday launched a scholarship to support students from Mt Albert Grammar through their studies at the university.
Katherine Reynolds and Jonathan Wrigley, who left the school last year, demonstrated commitment to their education and also to the wider community.
Katherine was a prefect and involved in fundraising for World Vision, breast cancer and cancer.
Jonathan was head of Amnesty International.
Katherine is doing a bachelor of arts and science at the University of Auckland and Jonathan is studying engineering.
Liddell spoke to the students about the importance of schools and universities in giving students both a formal and informal education as well as lifelong friends.
