US Golf Open champion Michael Campbell is throwing his weight behind a Hawke's Bay Opera House restoration fund.
A fundraising dinner to be held at a winery on Tuesday is expected to raise $30,000 for the $9.4 million restoration fund.
Tickets, costing $200 each, went on sale before Christmas through the golf course and 138 of the 150 available have been sold.
Campbell, who will play a round at Julian Robertson's Cape Kidnappers Golf Course earlier in the day, will speak at the Te Awa Farm winery, which is also owned by Mr Robertson.
Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule said: "I am just thrilled that one of New Zealand's heroes is here. We're hugely grateful that he is giving up his time to help our fundraising efforts".
A silent auction of Campbell memorabilia will be held during the dinner with diners tendering their written bids in envelopes.
A US Open flag and Presidents' Cup Flag, both signed by Campbell, will be auctioned on the night along with other Campbell paraphernalia.
The opera house overhaul includes a revamped theatre as well as a new entry plaza, now under construction. The official opening weekend will be on March 24-26.
