MIA reveals cars compatible with ethanol-blended fuels

KEY POINTS:

The Motor Industry Association has compiled a list of vehicles sold new in New Zealand that can use an ethanol blend of fuel, either (E)5 or (E)10 per cent.

The list does not include used Japanese imports, which the MIA says can't run on an ethanol blend above
(E)3 per cent.

Alfa Romeo: Not suitable for E10. All models from 1998 can use E5.

Audi: E5 and E10 suitable since 1997, except A3 engine code APG and A4 and A6 engine code ALT.

BMW: E5 and E10 suitable since 2000. E5 only before 2000.

Chrysler: E5 and E10 suitable since 1986.

Citroen: Not suitable for E10. E5 only since 1998.

Daihatsu: E5 and E10 suitable for Charade (since Sept 2005); Copen (Jan 2006) Materia (Nov 2006), Terios (Feb 2006).

Fiat: E5 only since 1998.

Ford: E5 and E10 suitable since 1986, except Capri, Courier, Econovan (pre-2000), Festiva, Laser, Telstar, Sierra, Escort. E5 only: Focus (2002-04), Ka, F-Series truck, Transit (1996-2004), Mondeo (pre-2001).

GM Daewoo: Not suitable for E5, E10.

Holden: E5 and E10 suitable since 1986, except Barina (1985-94). E5 only: Astra 2.2-litre (Nov 2006).

Honda: E5 and E10 suitable on fuel-injected models since 1996.

Hyundai: E5 and E10 suitable since October 2003.

Jaguar: E5 and E10 suitable on fuel-injected 95octane models since 1986.

Kia: E5 and E10 suitable since 1995.

Land Rover: E5 and E10 suitable on fuel-injected 95 octane models since 1986.

Lexus: E5 and E10 suitable.

Maserati: Not E5, E10.

Mazda: E5 and E10 suitable on MPV (1999), Mazda2 (May 2005), Mazda3, Mazda6, RX-8, MX-5 (2005), CX-7.

MG: Not suitable for E5, E10.

Mercedes-Benz: E5 and E10 suitable since 1986.

Mini: E5 only before 2000; E5, E10 after 2000.

Mitsubishi: E5 and E10 suitable for Outlander, 380, Grandis, Diamante (post 1996), Magna (post 1996), Pajero (post 2007).

Nissan: E5 and E10 suitable since Jan 2004.

Peugeot: E5 and E10 suitable for 206, 207, 307, 406, 407, 607, some 306 models.

Porsche: E5 and E10 suitable for 2007 models. E5 pre-2007.

Rover: Not suitable for E5, E10.

Renault: E5 and E10 suitable since 2001.

Saab: E5 and E10 suitable since 1986.

Skoda: E5 and E10 suitable since 2006.

Subaru: E5 and E10 suitable since 1990, except Legacy RS, GT, GTB, RSK, Blitzen, Impreza STi and Forester STi.

Suzuki: E5 and E10 suitable, except some models of Alto, Wagon R, Swift, Vitara, X-90, Jimny, Super Carry, Baleno. Check with carmaker.

Toyota: E5 and E10 suitable since 1990.

Volkswagen: E5 and E10 suitable since 2006. E5 only fuel-injected models since 1997.

Volvo: E5 and E10 suitable on fuel-injected 95 octane models since 1986.

The MIA recommends that owners double-check with carmakers on all models.
