KEY POINTS:
High Commission staff have now visited both New Zealand citizens detained in Fiji, Prime Minister Helen Clark said today.
They had previously seen businessman Ballu Khan, who is in hospital, and at the weekend visited the second detainee, Sivaniolo Waqa Naulago, who is in jail.
Miss Clark said the High Commission had confirmed that Mr Naulago had access to medical treatment and legal representation.
Miss Clark said that despite assurances given to the High Commission staff that they would be able to see Mr Khan on a daily basis, that had not happened.
"We will be continuing to seek access to him, as he is entitled to that under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations," she said at her post-cabinet press conference.
"We understand that while his condition has improved, he is not well enough to be released from hospital at this time."
Mr Naulago is an executive of Mr Khan's company, Pacific Connex.
They were both detained over an alleged plot to kill Fiji's military leader and self-appointed prime minister, Commodore Voreqe (Frank) Bainimarama and senior figures in his interim government.
More soon.
