KEY POINTS:
Residents of the southern part of the North Island have been warned to expect gale-force westerlies later today and tomorrow.
The MetService today issued a severe weather warning for the region, with gusts of up to 120km/h expected at times between Hastings and Masterton.
"Winds of this strength have the potential to damage trees, utility lines and roofs, and could make driving hazardous for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles," forecaster Bob Lake said.
