Meridian Energy is seeking resource consents to create a wind farm near Mossburn in northern Southland which could produce up to 70 megawatts - enough power to supply all 30,000 homes in Southland.
Chief executive Keith Turner said the site, known as White Hill, was forestry land mostly planted in douglas fir seedlings and had an existing network of roads, which could be widened for wind farm construction.
