A woman tramper has been airlifted from the Tararua Ranges after injuring her ankle.
Police said the woman, who is in her 40s, was airlifted from Atiwhakatu Hut with a badly twisted or possibly broken ankle on Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesman for Amalgamated Helicopters said the woman had been coming down from Jumbo Hut, where it was understood she had gone to see the snow, when she tripped on a tree root and injured her ankle.
The woman was assessed by ambulance staff before being taken to Wairarapa Hospital.
