Mercury spill in bedroom

Fire fighters and a clean-up crew are at a Wellington home after mercury was spilled in the bedroom.

Fire communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said the house was at the entrance to Mt Pleasant Road in Highbury.

It was not clear where the mercury had come from, but it was estimated at about 120ml.

Mercury is toxic and can cause poisoning if ingested or in contact with skin.
