Bowls Wairarapa will again hold both the Hannam-Knowles men's and Blackburn-Gray women's inter-club competitions this coming season.
A report on the centre's annual meeting suggested this may not be the case but it has now been confirmed that they are part of the inter-club programme.
Masterton Bowling Club has successfully completed laser levelling work on their number one green with the maniototo weed showing a green tinge on the surface.
It had been hoped the green could be in use by October but it now seems more likely to be some time in November.
Most bowling clubs in Wairarapa will hold their opening days over the next month with Eketahuna first up on Sepember 6 and Masterton Park on September 10. Other dates will be notified once they are known.
The Wairarapa men's development squad and the women's senior and development squads will have a further series of practice games at the Greytown greens on September 3.
The selectors are certainly giving players every chance to display their prowess before the representative season gets into full swing.
The men's and women's national outdoor bowls championships will be held in Wellington from December 27 to January 8 and Bowls Wairarapa Umpires Association members have been requested to indicate their availability to assist at this event. This writer has served in such a capacity at national tourneys in Wellington and Palmerston North in the past and found it a very rewarding experience.
