An outbreak of meningococcal disease that has infected eight Northland residents in the past month is expected to continue, a public health official says.
Northland Medical Officer of Health Dr Jonathan Jarman has written to doctors in the region warning them to be prepared for more cases.
August is usually the busiest month for meningococcal disease throughout New Zealand.
