Men killed in New Plymouth crash named

A Nepalese driver and a local man were killed when a car collided with a pedestrian in New Plymouth yesterday.

The local man killed in the crash on Frankley Rd was Ronald Victor McMillan. He was 67 and was from New Plymouth.

The driver was Alekh Acharya, a 22 year-old Nepalese national who lived in New Zealand. Nobody else was in the car with Mr Acharya.

Police said it seemed speed was a factor in the crash but investigations were continuing.

The crash happened about 4pm yesterday.

"Officers have spoken with a number of witnesses and encourage anyone else that saw the crash or has any other information to contact the New Plymouth Police on (06) 759 5500," police said in a statement.

The deaths have been referred to the coroner.
