Two men have appeared in the Taupo District Court to face charges relating to a serious bicycle accident near Taupo in May.
The men, aged 51 and 17, who are both from the Taupo area, appeared today and will reappear on Wednesday, August 1.
The 17-year-old is facing two charges of careless driving and one of driving while his licence was revoked. He was remanded on bail. The older man is charged with counselling another person to drive while their licence was revoked, and was remanded at large.
The charges follow the accident on Friday, May 25 where David Joyce and his wife, Sirpa Lajunen, were badly injured after being hit by a 4WD on rural Poihipi Rd.
Mr Joyce suffered a cracked vertebra and shoulder blade, a dislocated rib and a large cut down his backside. His wife had five damaged vertebrae and was badly bruised.
