Two young Huntly men have been charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal after they allegedly poured glue over three cats trapped in cages and set them on fire.
Police said the two men found the wild cats behind shops on Huntly's main street on April 19.
They had been trapped by Waikato District Council staff using cage traps.
Police said the pair left the cats in the cages but returned that night with a container of glue.
The men allegedly poured the glue over the trapped cats and left a trail of glue from the cats to outside the cages.
They then allegedly set the glue alight and left the cats to burn to death.
Two Huntly men, aged 18 and 17, are to appear in Huntly District Court on May 30 to face charges of aggravated cruelty to animals.
