Two men are facing assault charges after a late-night fight outside a Lower Hutt service station left a man in a critical condition.
Police said two pairs of men got into a fight outside the Caltex station on The Strand in Wainuiomata just after midnight on Saturday.
Two men in a blue four-door sedan got out of the car and began fighting with the other pair before fleeing at high speed.
A 27-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was taken to Wellington hospital in a critical condition. The victim remains in a serious but stable condition.
The men, aged 28 and 30, will appear in Lower Hutt District Court today on charges of common assault.
