KEY POINTS:
Two men were viciously beaten and robbed in central Wellington overnight.
The pair were walking home along Boulcott St, near the intersection with Willis St, about 3.30am when they were assaulted by two men.
Detective Damian Rapira-Davies, of Wellington police, described the attack as "vicious, sudden and unprovoked".
The victims were punched and kicked a number of times and robbed of their belongings.
They suffered serious injuries and needed hospital treatment, Mr Rapira-Davies said.
The attackers left in a silver sedan, heading up Boulcott St towards The Terrace.
Both men were described as Maori or Polynesian, aged between 18 and 24. One was wearing a red sweatshirt.
Anyone who saw the attack or the offenders is asked to call police.
