Six Auckland men who were arrested in connection with the seizure of 494kg of methamphetamine on Ninety Mile Beach and at Totara North in June have elected trial by jury.
Ulakai Fakaosilea, Amoki Matoto Fonua, Jermiah Iusitini, Malachi Tuilotolava Naua, and Ka Yip Wan, appeared in the High Court in Whangarei today for case review.
A sixth man, Stevie Norua Cullen, appeared via audio visual link from Christchurch where he was released on e-bail in August.
Police seized 448kg of meth from the back of a campervan on June 19 and a further 46kg from bags buried in sand dunes on Ninety Mile Beach. It;'s the largest amount of the Class A drug - also known as P - ever found in New Zealand.
All six will re-appear on February 2, next year for a callover when a trial date is expected to be set.
