Two men have been arrested after another man was slashed in the throat during a fracas involving boyracers in Wellington over Labour Weekend.
Police are seeking witnesses to the attack that happened about 1.30am on Sunday, October 24 in Oriental Bay, Detective Steven Dunn said.
"We know there was what you would call several boyracer type vehicles in the area.
"During the altercation, a 21-year-old male has received laceration wounds to the throat that are believed to have been caused by a broken bottle," Mr Dunn told NZPA.
The victim received stitches for deep lacerations to neck, and was fine at home, he said.
Police charged a 21-year-old with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, indecent assault and theft charges.
Stranz Schaumkel was due to appear in the Lower Hutt District Court today for a bail application, which was withdrawn without explanation. He remained remanded in custody to reappear at a later date, Mr Dunn said.
Another man, 21, appeared in court on unrelated matters today, and has also been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm over the incident.
They were all known to each other.
"Police believe that there may have been victims, within the boy racer community, of similar incidents," Mr Dunn said.
The arrests were related to a district-wide intelligence-led police operation, Operation Pyrite, that targeted people identified as posing a high risk to the public.
