As many as 30 members of Gary Cunningham's extended family are expected at a Wellington ceremony on Friday to remember the young New Zealand cameraman who was executed by the Indonesian Army in October 1975.
Cunningham and four other Australia-based newsmen were shot dead at Balibo, East Timor, during Indonesia's clandestine invasion of the former Portuguese colony as it sought independence.
The Media Freedom Committee has paid for a memorial seat and plaque on Mt Victoria overlooking the city and harbour.
